He Had to Be Guilty of SOMEthing - #110

#110 RICK D. VAN VLEET
REPUBLICAN SUPPORTER AND FUNDRAISER

I am all for trial by jury and dislike the notion of an innocent
man spending even 10 seconds behind bars but hey, I'm a
liberal. That's just how we roll. However, if you even LOOK at
this dude's picture:

http://www.republicanoffenders.com/Felonies.html

you can see that he looks like every rich asshole who's been
guilty as hell of SOMEthing but could afford a really good lawyer
and get out of it. I wouldn't base a system of justice on this
notion. I'm just saying that I could not sit in judgement of this
fucking guy. I'd be in the jury room for three minutes before I
said, "dude's guilty."

Van Vleet hawked music kiosks in Colorado that would allow
users to download and play music files for a fee. He promised
anyone who'd invest with him a hefty rate of return for a
$10,000 investment.

But Van Vleet alledgedly diverted $3 million of the investments
to his own personal bank accounts. He also lied to investors
about his status with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
All in all, Van Vleet was charged with five counts of securities
fraud and two counts of theft of more than $15,000. Those are
all Class 3 Felonies.

The case was filed in mid-March and there has been no
determination as of yet but if found guilty, Van Vleet could be
looking at 84 years in the pokey and $5 million in fines

[UPDATE: Five months ago, Van Vleet got 10 years in the
slammer and had to pay $2.9 million in restitution.]
